History: The ABC’s were initially an independent team sponsored by the American Brewing Company. They were one of the top two Black clubs based in the Midwest, the other being Rube Foster’s Chicago American Giants. In 1920, the ABC’s joined the new Negro National League as charter members. The Hall of Fame center-fielder Oscar Charleston joined the ABC’s in1915 but left for St. Louis in 1921. However he re-joined Indianapolis in 1922. After struggling for a couple of years the club folded in 1925.
