History: Based in New York City, the Lincoln Giants could trace their origins to Lincoln, Nebraska, where they played as the Nebraska Indians. Pioneer Sol White - who wrote the first history of Black baseball, The History of Colored Base Ball - organized the Lincoln Giants and signed all-time greats like John Henry “Pop” Lloyd and Dick “Cannonball” Redding. In 1913 the team defeated Rube Foster’s Chicago American Giants for the unofficial championship of Black baseball. The team was a charter member of the Eastern Colored League in 1923 and moved to the American Negro League in 1929 after the ECL folded.
